Technically WordPress is a open source software which we can use to create a beautiful website, blog, or app. 22% of the websites are running on WordPress currently and not just this, WordPress is providing employment to thousands of people around the globe. So the only right answer to question “Why WordPress?” is “Why not WordPress?”

Step 1 : How to install WordPress on you local machine or on your web hosting like Godaddy or Hostgator?

The first thing you need to do to develop your WordPress website is, you have to install WordPress on your local machine or on your web hosting. In this tutorial, I am telling you how to install WordPress on your local machine and after completing the website on local machine, I am telling you how to move you local WordPress to your Web Hosting.

If you have been through my Youtube video or my previous blog post on how to install WordPress then you now have WordPress installed on your local machine or computer. Let’s move to the next step.

Step 2 : Managing or Installing WordPress Theme :

Guys this is the most important step in making your WordPress website weather it is a blog or some e-commerce website or any corporate website. Themes in WordPress basically decide the look and feel of your WordPress website. There are thousands of themes in WordPress directory which you can use free of cost. Choosing a right theme is the important part. It is yet pretty simple to change your theme in WordPress. After you login to your WordPress dashboard Go to – > Appearance menu on the left. If you click appearance, it will directly take you to the theme section of WordPress dashboard. After clicking appearance you should see something like the image below.

WordPress comes with some nice pre-built themes. You can choose the theme from which are available in WordPress or you can add new themes. When you click add new button on this screen, you will see a screen where you can serach for the correct theme you want for your website. Have a look at the image below.

If you want to filter your result for searching themes then you can browse from popular theme, latest themes,
favorite and featured themes. If you want to filter special type of themes then you can click on Feature Filter button, it allows you to filter themes according to the functionalities you want. Have a look at the image below.

Suppose if you want to make a e-commerce website then you can click on e-commerce filter and it will show you e-commerce type of themes. If you have your own theme create or downloaded from somewhere then you can also upload your theme by clicking the upload theme button in add new theme screen. You will see a screen like below to upload your theme.

Step 3 : Managing or Installing WordPress Plugins :

In WordPress, plugins are used to increase the functionality of website. Suppose if you want to add E-commerce functionality then you can install Woocommerce plugin to your website. There are around 45000 plugins in WordPress directory which you can use for free and each one of them provide different functionality. So lets start with installing plugin, in your WordPress dashboard you will find Plugins menu in the left side. If you click on the plugins menu, this page shows all the plugins that are installed in your WordPress. Have a look at the image below.

Now if you want to add new functionality to your website, let’s say you want to convert your website in a E-commerce shopping portal like then press the add new button in the above screen. It will take you to the plugins search screen like the image below.

In the above screen you can filter the plugins based on Featured, Popular, Recommended and Favorites, while installing any plugin always look for its popularity and reviews. You can search for the plugin here and just click on the Install Now button on the plugin you want to install. If you have plugin files on your computer the you can upload the plugin as well for installing, just click on the Upload Plugin button on the above screen and you will be taken to the screen like the image below.

Step 4 : Mange and create new pages in WordPress website

With WordPress, you have freedom to create any number of pages for your website and creating a new page is as simple as clicking a button and adding content to it. On the left menu bar go to Pages menu, when you click it, it will show you list of all the pages in your website. You can edite any page which you have created previously from this page and can also create a new page.

Now if you click to Add New, it will take you to new screen where you can add the title, content and different things to your page like in the image below.

In add new page screen you have to give title to your page like “about us” etc, after that in the big text area just below the title field, you have to add the content to your page. You can add images just by clicking add media, you can also add video or can easily embed any i-frame or any post from twitter Facebook or any YouTube video or just simple text with descriptive images. Whatever you are thinking to create, this WordPress text editor for content got everything ready for you, If you have some knowledge of html then you can direct put html here by going to text section of this text editor. After you have finished adding content to your page, you have to click publish button and your page is created. If you don’t want to publish you page to live website right now then you can save it to draft as-well.

Step 5 : Edit or create Menu/Navigation in WordPress Website

In any website or software, Menus or navigations ar most import part. Menu give the user access to different sections or pages of your software or website. You can not imagine a website without a menu because people visiting your website will never be able to find out about the different pages of website. Every theme have different style and position for menus on the front-end but in the back-end all are same in WordPress.
On the left menu bar go to Appearence->Menus. From this screen you can add or remove pages to your menu. Every theme support different menu locations, you can create a new menu and assign a display location to that according to your theme. Have a look at the images below.

Step 6 : Managing and using WordPress Widgets.

Widgets in WordPress are mostly used in sidebars and footer of the pages. According to the theme design, WordPress widgets can be used on almost any part of the website.
If you go to Appearence -> Widget menu in the WordPress Dashboard you will find the widgets screen as the image below :

Step 7 :Make a complete website or blog using WordPress

Our main goal of this blog is to learn and make a complete website or blog using WordPress. If you have been through this post above, you might be familiar with WordPress from making a page to menus to installing themes and plugins.
Install theme
We will now make one simple fully functional professional website using WordPress. If you have been though all the steps above then you should have WordPress installed on your system and you are familiar with themes and plugins installation. We will now choose a good professional free theme for our website. Lets go to WordPress Dashboard menu, then Appearence -> Themes. Now in this theme screen look around for the filters and try to find the theme that best fits your website idea and click Install on that theme and activate the theme by clicking activate button.
Cate menu and adding pages
Now go to WordPress Dashboard menu, look for appearance->menus. Inside menus screen you will find different menu locations. Different WordPress themes support different menu locations. You can create different menus and assign them to different locations.
Now that you have created your menus that you want and have added them to theme locations, you need to add elements. You can add different pages, posts and categories to any WordPress menu.
Adding Widgets
Go to WordPress Dashboard menu, look for appearance->widgets. Inside this widget screen, you will find different widget space available on the right side of the page. On the left side of the page, you will find the widgets you can use for your website.
